Obama wants to have the government take over student loans. We could save billions by putting money in an interest earning account that could only be used to pay for college or technical training as soon as a baby is born. The interest alone could pay for most of a public university education.

A key point here is that the money is locked away for only education purposes. No one could blow the money on a car or beer. Also it's use it or lose it. If you don't get training in a trade or go on to higher education it reverts back to the government when the adult reaches a certain age.
