For the good of society: paid maternity leave. The US is the only Western country without real maternity paid leave (as in 6 months minimum - year).

Wouldn't the US be a more compassionate place if we had a true maternity/paternity leave? People have to save their vacation time and take UNpaid leave just to be home with their newborns for an entire 2 weeks. Mothers get 12 weeks unpaid IF they're lucky, it varies by state. This is an issue that noone is talking about - we are kind of resigned to it, but it should be 2nd on the list of social reform, right after univeral healthcare.
