In winter snow is the manicured lawn of the north. Why? If it's not a hazard leave it alone. Read on and tell me why I'm wrong.

more about this idea...

Here in the north after every snowfall no matter how small, I see people climb onto their riding lawnmowers, fire up their snow blowers, and generally burn fuel in dirty engines to quickly get rid of snow from every flat surface. Why? So their property will look the same in winter as it does in summer, with the exception of white replacing green. They clear parts of driveways they don't use, paths that lead to doors they don't open in winter, and far flung areas of parking lots that haven't seen a car in years. It's noisy, polluting, and a complete waste of time.

If you are guilty of this (or suspect you are), think about what you are doing. Are you clearing that snow for safety reasons or just to get your car/bike/self to the road? Fine, that's necessary. But if not, you might want to rethink what you are doing. If we all reduced the amount of time we run our blowers and mowers, the cumulative effect would be noticable.

Finally, if you hate snow so much that you can't stand to see it on pavement, then move. There's plenty of places in the world that never sees snow.

Snow looks crap after a few days. I don't want it cluttering up everything looking dirty.
